The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is pleased to announce a new cohort for the 2023–24 CFR Education Ambassador Program, which brings together teachers and professionals in high school and higher education to promote global civics and global affairs education.
The CFR Education Ambassador Program is a nine-month engagement that connects educators across the world with resources, class activities, and a network of like-minded professionals. For the first time, the program welcomes both high school and higher education ambassadors.

This year, CFR Education selected seventy teachers, department heads, and curriculum leaders to join the high school ambassador program. The group includes current and former national and state teachers of the year, leaders in national and state councils for social studies, and educators interested in global civics education.
Luke Sundermeier, a U.S. government, global issues, and American cultural studies teacher from Marysville High School in Ohio, is starting his second year in the program. “CFR Education has fundamentally changed the way I teach. World101 and Model Diplomacy from CFR Education are engaging, relevant, and valuable resources for teachers and students,” said Sundermeier.
The new higher education ambassador program includes eighty-five professors, instructors, and administrators advocating for global affairs education in colleges and universities across thirty states. Participants range from former diplomats and current media commentators to first-year instructors of international affairs.
“Educators are on the frontlines protecting America’s democracy. A scan of daily headlines makes it clear that international threats continue to shape our lives, requiring continued attention to how students learn about the world,” said CFR Vice President of Education Caroline Netchvolodoff. “The commitment to helping advance students’ global literacy—the knowledge, skills, and perspective needed to navigate today’s interconnected world—is essential to our national security and prosperity.”
CFR Education aims to make complex foreign policy and international issues accessible for high school and college students through its educational products: World101, Model Diplomacy, and Convene the Council.
